The Mamdani era begins. This edition is dominated by sweeping personnel changes from Mayor Zohran K. Mamdani's new administration — over 40 senior appointments to the Mayor's Office alone, plus major reshuffles at the Manhattan Borough President's office and Comptroller's office. Mark Levine moves from Manhattan BP to Comptroller. See Personnel section for the full picture.
Greenpoint gets a megatower proposal. The City Planning Commission's March 18 hearing includes the Monitor Point rezoning — a 1.2M square foot, three-building mixed-use complex in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with towers up to 600 feet, 1,150 apartments, and a new permanent home for the Greenpoint Monitor Museum. It involves demapping part of Inlet Park and relocating two NYCTA facilities. See Land Use section.
Two packed LPC hearing days. The Landmarks Preservation Commission has 20+ properties across two hearings (March 17 and 24), spanning Greenwich Village, SoHo, NoHo, Tribeca, Brooklyn Heights, and more. Includes a controversial proposal to demolish a Sullivan-Thompson Historic District tenement and rebuild only the facade. See Landmarks section.
Union Square gets a new cafe operator. Parks awarded a 15-year, $3.3M concession for the Union Square Park cafe and two snack kiosks to Union Square Parkhouse LLC. See Parks section.
